Maturing as a Solopreneur: Embracing Growth and New Paths

As I reflect on my journey as a solopreneur, I can’t help but think about the significant growth and maturation that comes with running a business independently. But first, what exactly is a solopreneur? It’s someone who sets up and manages their business independently, navigating the complexities of entrepreneurship without a co-founder or partner.

Have you taken a moment to assess your growth as a solopreneur?

After spending over 30 years in the corporate world, I leapt into solopreneurship in 2007. It was a daunting decision, but I felt it was essential for my growth and fulfilment. My first venture was a coaching business, which, at the time, consisted of little more than a name and a business card. 2007 the digital landscape was vastly different; websites were unnecessary, and word-of-mouth referrals sufficed.

Fast forward to 2022, when I decided to retire from that initial coaching business and redefine my focus. I recognised that a strong online presence was no longer optional but a requirement. This marked my second ‘Next Path’ in business. The process of establishing my website was intimidating. I had to confront simple tasks that proved to be complex and challenging. With the support of my dedicated team, I persevered. By late 2022, I finally launched my first website, a milestone that took me 15 years to achieve.

However, the journey didn’t end there. In late 2023, I decided to write a book titled Life’s NEXT Path, which is set to be published on May 1, 2025. This endeavour unveiled an entirely new set of challenges. Writing a book is only the beginning; I quickly learned that marketing it effectively was crucial for both the book and my coaching services. This realisation led me to embark on my third ‘Next Path’—a complete overhaul of my online presence to ensure I was positioned for success in the present, not just reflecting my past.

In hindsight, these experiences were vital to my growth as a solopreneur. Here are some key takeaways from my journey:
